Job Title: Translator

Duty Station: Hassakeh, with travel to project locations, including Al Hol camp

• Language Interpretation: Provide accurate and professional interpretation services between English and Arabic (and depending on capabilities Kurdish) during meetings, conferences, training sessions, and other organizational activities.
• Document Translation: Translate a variety of written materials, including reports, memos, correspondence, educational materials, and official documents, from English to the local languages and vice versa. Ensure the translations accurately convey the intended message while maintaining cultural sensitivity.
• Communication Support: Assist with oral and written communication tasks, including drafting and proofreading documents, facilitating conversations, and assisting with interviews or assessments of beneficiaries, staff, or other stakeholders.
• Cultural Mediation: Provide cultural context and guidance to team members, ensuring that cultural nuances and sensitivities are considered in all communications and interactions with beneficiaries, local partners, and community members.
• Terminology Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive glossary of relevant terminology, ensuring consistency and accuracy in translations across different documents and projects.
• Collaborative Approach: Work closely with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, including local staff, international team members, and external partners, to foster effective teamwork and collaboration.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct regular reviews of translated materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to organizational guidelines. Implement feedback and make necessary revisions accordingly.
• Confidentiality and Professionalism: Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information and adhere to ethical standards in translation and interpretation.
• Professional Development: Stay updated on language-related developments, local dialects, and cultural dynamics to enhance translation skills and contribute to continuous learning within the organization.

Main Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Translator to join our humanitarian organization based in North and East Syria. As a Translator, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between our team and the local communities, ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive exchange of information. Your linguistic expertise will contribute to our mission of providing vital support and assistance to individuals affected by conflict and crisis.

Duration: Starting  from 15.06.2023

Experience:

• Fluency in English and Arabic. Additional languages would be an asset.
• Proven experience in translation and interpretation, preferably within a humanitarian or international organization.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas accurately and effectively in both written and spoken form.

Excellent cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt translations to the target audience while maintaining the integrity of the source material.

• Attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment.
• Familiarity with humanitarian principles, international standards, and local dynamics in North and East Syria would be an advantage.
• Professional qualifications or certifications in translation/interpretation are desirable but not mandatory Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff in a clear and concise manner.
• Knowledge of data security and compliance regulations
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology solutions.
• Desirable: experience in the humanitarian sector.
