Overview:
Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) International is a humanitarian organization providing urgent support to the people of Syria. CHF is seeking a professional for the position of Agriculture Officer for a multi-year USAID-funded project “Growing Agriculture and Incomes in Syria (GROW) Activity” in Northeast Syria. This position reports to the Regional Manager; with close coordination with Agriculture productivity specialist.
Job Summary:
The Agriculture Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of agriculture value chain activities under the GROW program. The main responsibilities of this role include collecting primary data, conducting technical assessments, providing technical support, and ensuring the effective implementation of GROW interventions. The Agriculture Officer will also be responsible for capacity building for the potential Agriculture Inputs Provider Services participants in GROW program, data collection, and reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Agriculture Officer is responsible for the following:
•
Dedication to the assigned work plan, as directed by the immediate supervisor (Regional Manager), ensuring high quality, accuracy, and adherence to established timelines.
•
Collection of primary data and information for agriculture value chains targeted by GROW through interviews and meetings with GROW potential beneficiaries, key stakeholders, external partners, and ultimate beneficiaries as appropriate.
•
Conduct all necessary assessments to identify potential beneficiaries of GROW activities.
•
Engage with actors along the agriculture value chains targeted by GROW to understand and determine their Agribusiness needs and identify the gaps.
•
Providing technical support for designing and implementing the activities for all targeted value chains and markets.
•
Participate in community sensitization meetings required for the Identification of potential Agricultural Input Service Providers with high potentials interested in partnering with GROW program.
•
Support the designing of training materials and implementation of training that provides technical guidance and capacity-building to farmers and producer groups.
•
Providing the necessary support to the program team to design and develop tools for data collection, registration, verification, and follow-up of program activities.
•
Support developing and delivering capacity development activities in agribusiness, value chain, and marketing development.
•
Collecting data and information needed to undertake an effective follow-up on activities related to agriculture value chains and marketing.
•
Supervise and follow up on the implementation of GROW activities with a focus on improving crops, productivity processing, and input-output market enhancement.
•
Conduct regular field visits to ensure GROW interventions are implemented aligned with the work plan.
•
Participate in market assessments to gather insights and identify opportunities for value chain development.
•
To provide timely inputs for monthly and quarterly progress reports and any other required reports.
•
Prepare clear and concise reports in line with the requirements.
•
Carry out any other related duties as might be reasonably requested by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in agriculture/Agronomy.
❖
Minimum of three years’ experience in implementation of Agricultural Programs. (Proven experience in working with value chains, agriculture development, or related fields.)
❖
Prior experience working on USAID funded programs in the region is preferable.
❖
Should have strong knowledge of the stakeholders in the agricultural sector in NES (Northeast Syria).
❖
Strong knowledge of NES agricultural practices and market dynamics.
❖
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders.
❖
Ability to conduct technical assessments and analyze data effectively.
❖
Proficiency in using data collection tools and software.
❖
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
❖
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
❖
Good computer skills in a Windows based environment including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
❖
Ability to travel within the NES as necessary.
❖
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and environments.
Language Skills:
•
Fluency in Arabic.
•
Good command of English is an advantage.
