The Purpose of the Position
A Food Handling Trainer is responsible for educating food service employees on safe food handling practices, sanitation, and hygiene standards. They ensure that all food service workers are knowledgeable and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations to prevent foodborne illnesses and maintain food safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Training Program Development:
Develop and update training materials, manuals, and curricula that cover food safety regulations, proper food handling techniques, sanitation procedures, and related topics.
2. Training Delivery:
Conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars for food service staff, including chefs, cooks, servers, and kitchen personnel, both in a classroom and on-the-job setting.
3. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal food safety regulations and ensure that all training materials and programs reflect current standards.
4. Hands-on Demonstrations: Provide practical demonstrations and hands-on training to food service employees to teach them proper food handling techniques, including food storage, preparation, cooking, and serving.
5. Assessment and Evaluation: Assess the knowledge and skills of trainees through written tests, practical exams, and observation to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
6. Feedback and Coaching: Offer constructive feedback and coaching to individuals or groups to help them improve their food handling practices and hygiene.
7. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of training sessions, attendance, test scores, and certification of employees who have completed food safety training.
8. Continuing Education: Stay informed about emerging food safety trends, technologies, and best practices to update training programs accordingly.
9. Consultation: Provide guidance and recommendations to food establishments on improving their food safety procedures and standards.
10. Communication: Communicate with management and employees to address food safety concerns, provide updates on regulatory changes, and reinforce the importance of safe food handling.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in food science, nutrition, culinary arts, or a related field is preferred.
• Certified Food Safety Trainer (CFST) or similar certification is often required.
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Experience in the food service industry is advantageous.
