To empower and promote the financial independence of the SHG members within the community by facilitating the formation and management of self-help saving groups. The Senior Officer will provide guidance, training, and support to group members, enabling them to achieve their financial goals and implement income-generating activities. The Senior Officer will also ensure the smooth functioning of the groups, monitor their performance, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with the business support team leader to scale up the SHG project.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation of the SHG project, ensuring adherence to established guidelines, objectives, and timelines.
- Collaborate with the Business Support Team Leader to develop and implement strategies for scaling up the SHG project and expanding its reach.
- Collaborate with the LLH Officers to ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping of group activities, including financial transactions, savings balances, loan repayments, and member profiles.
- Coordinate the formation of new self-help saving groups in the community, including identifying potential members, organizing initial meetings, and guiding the group formation process.
- Identify training needs and facilitate relevant capacity-building workshops for the groups.
- Assist groups in developing business plans, setting financial goals, and implementing income-generating activities.
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to self-help saving groups to assess their performance, identify challenges, and provide guidance for improvement.
- Provide regular training sessions to group members on topics such as financial literacy, savings management, entrepreneurship, and business development.
- Support group members in developing and implementing income-generation activities, including providing technical assistance, facilitating access to markets, and promoting product diversification.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping of group activities, including financial transactions, savings balances, loan repayments, and member profiles.
- Prepare regular reports on the progress, challenges, and impact of the self-help saving group program.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and records of project activities, including meeting minutes, attendance registers, and financial transactions.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on the progress, challenges, and impact of the SHG program to inform decision-making and showcase achievements.
- Other Required Tasks:
- Coordinate with local authorities when required to facilitate the project implementation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
- Prepare and process purchase orders for materials, equipment, or services required by the self-help groups.
- Supervise the business and vocational trainers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality training and capacity-building sessions.
- Assist in the training of new self-help group members.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new SHG members, ensuring their understanding of the project’s objectives, processes, and benefits.
- Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Livelihoods Department.
- Qualifications and Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as economics, business administration, or social sciences.
- Strong knowledge of financial literacy, savings mobilization, income generation activities, and entrepreneurship.
- Proven experience working with self-help saving groups or Livelihoods interventions, with a focus on women empowerment and poverty alleviation.
- understanding of savings mobilization, and income generation activities.
- Excellent training and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with self-help group members, stakeholders, and team members.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and ability to work with data management systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and propose appropriate solutions.
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
- Knowledge of local community dynamics and cultural sensitivities.
