Mari Research and Development (MRD) is a non-for-profit civil society organization operating in
northeast Syria. It was established in 2018 and registered in Canada, France, and Erbil.
MRD seeks to build a stable and just society where peace and respect for human rights and fundamental
freedoms prevail, in order to promote cohesive and tolerant societies where justice and equality prevail,
we seek to promote human rights, and to make them the primary and main drivers of the diverse societies
which we target through our work.
The Purpose of the Position
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Veterinary professional to join our project team. The
Veterinary will play a crucial role in providing veterinary support and guidance to ensure the health and
well-being of the livestock involved in the dairy value chain project. This position requires expertise in
livestock management, animal health, and veterinary care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct regular health assessments and examinations of the livestock (cows, sheep, and goats)
owned by the project beneficiaries.
2. Provide veterinary care and treatment to prevent and control diseases, parasites, and other health
issues affecting the livestock.
3. Develop and implement vaccination programs to ensure the appropriate immunization of the
animals.
4. Advise and train project beneficiaries on best practices for livestock management, including
proper feeding, housing, and hygiene practices.
5. Offer guidance on breeding practices, reproductive health, and genetic improvement of the
livestock.
6. Monitor the overall health and growth of the animals, and provide recommendations for
improved animal productivity and welfare.
7. Collaborate with the Milk Processing & Pasteurizing Trainer and other project staff to ensure the
integration of veterinary practices into the overall project activities.
8. Conduct training sessions and workshops for project beneficiaries on animal health, disease
prevention, and basic veterinary care.
9. Keep accurate records of veterinary interventions, treatments administered, and health status of
the livestock.
10. Assist in the identification and diagnosis of animal diseases, and provide guidance on disease
control measures and biosecurity protocols.
11. Stay updated on the latest developments and research in veterinary science and animal health,
and apply relevant knowledge to the project activities.
12. Collaborate with local veterinary authorities and organizations to leverage resources and
expertise for the benefit of the project.
13. Prepare reports and contribute to project monitoring and evaluation activities related to livestock
health and management.
14. Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations, ethical veterinary practices, and donor
requirements.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited institution.
• Valid license to practice veterinary medicine.
• Proven experience in livestock management and veterinary care, preferably in a rural or
agricultural setting.
• Strong knowledge of livestock diseases, animal health management, and preventive care.
• Familiarity with the dairy industry and livestock breeding practices.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with project beneficiaries and
stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
• Strong organizational skills to manage veterinary interventions, treatments, and records.
